LastLight ("we," "our," or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how LastLight handles information when you use our iOS application.

In short: LastLight does not collect, store, transmit, or sell any of your personal data. All data processing happens locally on your device.

LastLight does not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information, including but not limited to:

  • Device identifiers or advertising IDs

Location Data

LastLight requires location information to calculate accurate sunset and twilight times for your area. Here's how we handle location data:

How Location Data is Used

  • Location coordinates are used solely to calculate sun times for your area
  • Location data is processed entirely on your device
  • We do not store, transmit, or share your location with any third parties
  • Location coordinates are only used at the moment of calculation and are not retained

Location Methods

You can choose from three location determination methods:

  • Device Location: Uses your iPhone's GPS to determine your current location. This is the most accurate method. Location permissions are requested through iOS's standard permission dialog.
  • Automatic (IP-Based): Estimates your location based on your IP address using a third-party service (ipapi.co). This method provides city-level accuracy without requiring location permissions.
  • Manual Address: Allows you to enter any address or location manually. The address is geocoded to coordinates using Apple's geocoding service.

Location Permissions

  • If you choose Device Location, iOS will prompt you to grant location access
  • You can grant "While Using the App" or "Always" permission
  • "Always" permission enables background updates to keep your widgets current
  • You can change or revoke location permissions at any time in iOS Settings
  • If you prefer not to grant location permissions, you can use the IP-Based or Manual Address methods instead

Data Storage

All data in LastLight is stored locally on your device:

  • Your location method preference and coordinates are stored locally using iOS App Groups
  • Widget configuration settings (alignment, bold fonts, icon colors) are stored locally
  • Cached sun time data is stored locally to display in widgets
  • This data is never transmitted to our servers or any third parties
  • This data is accessible only to LastLight and its widgets
  • If you delete the app, all stored data is permanently removed from your device

Third-Party Services

LastLight uses the following third-party services to provide its core functionality:

Sunrise-Sunset.org API

  • Used to calculate sunrise, sunset, and twilight times
  • We send only your latitude and longitude coordinates to this service
  • No personally identifiable information is transmitted
  • This service does not track or store your information

ipapi.co (Optional)

  • Used only if you select the "Automatic (IP-Based)" location method
  • Estimates your location from your IP address
  • We do not send any personal information to this service

Apple Geocoding Service

  • Used only if you enter a manual address
  • Converts addresses to coordinates using Apple's built-in iOS service
  • Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy

Widgets and Background Updates

  • LastLight uses iOS WidgetKit to display widgets on your Lock Screen and Home Screen
  • Widgets are updated using iOS Background Tasks at scheduled times
  • Widget updates only fetch new sun time data; no tracking occurs
  • All widget configuration is stored locally on your device

Analytics and Advertising

  • LastLight does not use any analytics services
  • LastLight does not display advertisements
  • LastLight does not collect usage data or behavior patterns
  • LastLight does not use any tracking technologies

Data Security

Since LastLight does not collect or transmit your personal data, there is no central database or server that could be compromised. All data remains on your device and is protected by iOS's built-in security features, including:

  • iOS App Sandbox protection
  • Encrypted device storage
  • Secure App Group container for widget data sharing

Children's Privacy

LastLight does not knowingly collect any data from children under the age of 13. The app does not collect personal information from any users, regardless of age. LastLight is suitable for users of all ages.

Your Rights and Choices

You have complete control over your data in LastLight:

  • Location Permissions: You can change location permissions at any time through iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → LastLight
  • Location Method: You can switch between Device Location, IP-Based, and Manual Address at any time in the app's Location Settings
  • Data Deletion: To delete all data, simply delete the LastLight app from your device. This will permanently remove all stored preferences and cached data

International Users

LastLight is available worldwide and works in any country or region. Since all data processing occurs locally on your device, there are no international data transfers involved. The only data transmitted is your coordinates to the Sunrise-Sunset.org API for calculation purposes.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app or legal requirements. When we make changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

Continued use of LastLight after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.

California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), California residents have specific rights regarding their personal information. However, since LastLight does not collect, sell, or share any personal information, these rights do not apply. We do not:

  • Collect personal information
  • Sell personal information
  • Share personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes

European Union Users (GDPR)

For users in the European Union, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) provides certain rights regarding personal data. Since LastLight does not collect or process personal data as defined by GDPR, these rights do not apply. Specifically:

  • Location coordinates used for calculations are not stored or processed beyond the immediate calculation
