A: Simply tap the red "Record" button at the bottom of the screen, speak clearly, then tap "Stop" when finished. Your transcription will appear automatically.

Q: Do I need an internet connection?
A: No! DualScribe works completely offline using iOS built-in speech recognition. Internet is only needed if you choose to use advanced AI features.

Q: Why do I need microphone permission?
A: DualScribe needs microphone access to record your voice for transcription. All recordings are stored locally on your device.

Transcription Quality

Q: How can I improve transcription accuracy?
A: Speak clearly and at a normal pace, reduce background noise, hold your device 6-12 inches from your mouth, and use the iPhone microphone setting in quiet environments.

Q: What's the difference between built-in and AI transcription?
A: Built-in transcription works offline using iOS speech recognition. AI transcription uses advanced language models for higher accuracy but requires internet and a free Google Gemini API key.

Q: Can I transcribe long recordings?
A: Yes! DualScribe can handle recordings of any length. The app auto-saves your progress during long recordings to prevent data loss.

AI Features

Q: How do I get a Google Gemini API key?
A: Visit Google AI Studio, sign in with your Google account, and click "Create API key." The API is free to use within Google's usage limits.

Q: What can the AI tools do?
A: The 9 AI tools can fix grammar, rewrite text professionally, identify speakers, format as lists or meeting notes, adjust tone, and much more. Access them by editing any transcription.

Q: Is my data sent to Google?
A: Only if you choose to use AI transcription. All built-in transcription happens locally on your device. You have complete control over when data is shared.

Managing Transcriptions

Q: How do I edit transcriptions?
A: Tap any transcription to open the editor, or tap the menu (⋯) button and select "Edit Transcription."

Q: Can I export my transcriptions?
A: Yes! Use "Save & Copy" to copy text to clipboard, or "Export Audio" to share the original recording file.

Q: How do I add custom titles?
A: Tap the menu (⋯) button next to any transcription and select "Add Custom Title."

Settings & Preferences

Q: Should I use Automatic or iPhone Microphone?
A: "Automatic" works well with external microphones like AirPods. Choose "iPhone Microphone" for consistent results or when external mics cause issues.

Q: What is "Auto-open editor"?
A: When enabled, the editing screen opens automatically after successful transcriptions, allowing you to quickly enhance your text with AI tools.

Troubleshooting

Recording Issues

App won't record:

• Check that microphone permission is granted in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone
• Ensure speech recognition permission is granted in iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Speech Recognition
• Try restarting the app or your device
• Check that your device has sufficient storage space

Poor transcription quality:

• Speak directly toward your device's microphone
• Reduce background noise and echo
• Switch to "iPhone Microphone" in settings
• Try using AI transcription for better accuracy
• Ensure iOS speech recognition supports your language in Settings > General > Language & Region

AI Features Not Working

If AI tools show errors:

• Verify your Google Gemini API key is entered correctly
• Check your internet connection
• Ensure you haven't exceeded Google's free usage limits
• Try again in a few minutes if you see rate limiting errors

App Performance

If the app seems slow or unresponsive:

• Close and reopen the app
